As heartbreaking as the film is, it’s also overflowing with hope, and the belief that the good in people still outweighs the bad, which, after 9/11 and still today, is essential for our survival not just in this beast of a city, but in the world.

- "Don’t Let Me Drown," a film by Brooklyn-based filmmaker Cruz Angeles, is a comical coming-of-age drama that tells the story of two Brooklyn teens’ search for solace in a city brimming with anxiety and hatred. In the midst of their family turmoil and exactly one month after September 11th, Lalo and Stefanie meet at a birthday party. Although they start off on the wrong foot, the ice melts, and their budding friendship becomes a clandestine romance. Starring newcomers E.J. Bonilla, Gleendylis Inoa with Ricardo Chavira (Desperate Housewives), Gina Torres (I Think I Love My Wife), Damian Alcazar (Cronicas) and Yareli Arizmendi (Like Water For Chocolate). Don’t Let Me Drown premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the San Francisco International Film Festival and top honors at the Woodstock Film Festival, receiving the Woodstock Film Festival’s Lee Marvin Best Feature Narrative Award as well the the James Lyons Editing Award for best editor. The film is planning a theatrical release in the Spring of 2010.
